Safe Place Parking was suspended in July 2024 due to a loss of our insurance, impacting the many people who used the lot - an average of 45 vehicles every night. We are thrilled to announce the
lot is once again insured and we are accepting donations to fund our goal to re-open the lot December 1, 2024.
Please donate here to help us achieve our fundraising goal of $30,000 for two months of program costs. Every dollar helps. Thank you!
Safe Place Parking fills a gap in the homeless-to-housing continuum for people sleeping in their cars. We provide a parking lot designated for people to sleep safely and undisturbed through the night. The lot is staffed by a person to help ensure all parkers are registered and safely parked for the night and help parkers access community resources.
A Safety Monitor ensures all parkers are registered and safely parked for the night, distributing blankets, snacks, and water. The program has 12 battery banks available for loan to plug in electric blankets or C-PAP machines. In the morning, staff are on-site to exit parkers and provide support where needed. This can include battery charging, gas cards, and referrals to food and other resources.
We help connect parkers to community services, including other WWGP programming, based on their needs. We help connect them to stable housing and shelter resources when desired and accepted.
When we resume the program, the lot hours will be 6 pm to 8 am.
