Sexual Contact Without Consent

Sexual violence is any type of unwanted sexual contact. 

Sexual violence includes words and actions of a sexual nature against a person’s will and without their consent. Forms of sexual violence include:

  · Rape or sexual assault

  · Child sexual abuse and incest
  · Sexual assault by a spouse or partner
  · Unwanted sexual contact or touching
  · Sexual harassment
  · Sexual exploitation and trafficking

· Exposing one’s genitals or naked body to

   other(s) without consent

· Masturbating in public
· Watching someone engage in private acts
  without their knowledge or permission

· Non consensual image sharing


A person may use force, threats, manipulation, or coercion to commit sexual violence.

Who Experiences Sexual Violence

Sexual violence happens in every community. It can happen to people of all genders and ages.

Women

 · 1 in 3 women experience some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime 

 · 51.1% of female victims of rape report being raped by an intimate partner

 · 40.8% of female victims of rape report being raped by an acquaintance

 · 49.5% of multiracial women experience contact sexual violence in their lifetime

 · 45% of American Indian/Alaska Native women experience contact sexual violence in

    their lifetime

 · 91% of victims of rape and sexual assault are female

Men

 · 1 in 6 men experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime 

 · 9% of victims of rape and sexual assault are male

 · 52.4% of male victims report being raped by an acquaintance

All

 · In 8 of 10 rape cases, the victim knows the perpetrator
