Safe Place Parking provides a safe, staffed overnight parking space for people in Brown County who are sleeping in their vehicles. Operated by Wise Women Gathering Place, the program is open 365 nights a year, in every season, offering safety, dignity, and connection to support for individuals and families experiencing housing instability.
For many participants, a vehicle is the last barrier between having shelter and sleeping completely unsheltered. Safe Place Parking provides a secure place to rest while participants connect with housing, employment, health care, and other resources that support long-term stability.
On average, Safe Place Parking hosts 24 vehicles each night, with capacity at 46 vehicles nightly. As local shelters reduce capacity or close seasonally, more neighbors turn to Safe Place Parking for a secure place to rest. In a community where housing affordability is increasingly out of reach, the program fills a critical gap.
For six years, Safe Place Parking has remained open because families, businesses, foundations, and community partners have chosen to invest in our neighbors. Every gift—large or small—helps ensure that someone has a safe place to sleep tonight while they work toward stability.
It costs approximately $12,500 each month to keep the lot open year-round. Just $17 provides one person with a safe place to sleep for one night. Every gift helps keep the program open every night of the year.
Every gift—no matter the size—helps ensure that someone has a safe place to sleep tonight while they work toward stability.
